Newell Coach

What's this all about?

Well, I keep carrying out my own repairs as we move around the country. Each repair usually means I learn something new. How does it work, where do you get the parts from, is there a datasheet?

I'm going to use this as a log of the information I learn. I hope it helps.

Wiper blades
LED bulbs

Oil filter

Wiper blades

On my 2009 coach, the wiper blades are 36" long and they are held in place by a bolt. The blade bolts to an arm that is 'U' shaped, the shouldered bolt has a diameter of 5/16" or 8mm. If that's the same as yours then I have a wiper blade recommendation. I bought one and tried it and it's perfect and high quality. It's made by Bosch so you know its good and they claim a longer life than most. View it on Amazon.

Replacement LED bulbs

Replacement LED bulbs. It took me a long time to find LED replacements that are both cheap and reliable. I tend to use warm white as they match the normal tungsten they replace. These are $1.70 each and have proven to be reliable so far. View on Amazon.

Fan-Tastic Fan

The fan is made up of 2 basic parts, the outside cover that has a motor to lift it, and the fan itself. The cover lifting releases a push-button that turns on the fan.

Fault finding
1. Is the cover lifting? If ys go to 2. If not then pull out the black knob by pulling down and this will allow you to turn the handle manually and raise the cover. If that works it shows that the cover is working and not stuck, which suggests its the motor that's not turning. Remove about 4 screws and the fan cover will come off and you will have access to the motor wires. Unplug the motor, attach a voltmeter to the 2 wires on the vehicle side. Push the on button and you should see either 9 to 12V or -9 to -12V depending on which way you connected the meter, pushing the button to turn off the fan should reverse the polarity. In that case you have a worn-out motor, these are brushed motors so the brushes will wear out, our 1/2 bath one wore out after 12 years. Just order a replacement motor, about $40, and fit it all back together.
2. If the cover does lift you know that the motor is good, in which case it could be the push switch that is released when the cover opens to supply power to the fan motor or it could be the fan. Remove the fan and check the power, if you have power its most likely the fan motor, otherwise its the push switch.
